Daniel started seeing Virginia for two hours a week in 2021 when we realised he was falling behind during the pandemic. Virginia has a no nonsense and transparent approach so everyone knows where they stand. She is firm but fair and always has a smile which will lift any bad day! She knew how to handle and channel the energy of our duracell bunny and always had his best interests at heart. Our son would often walk out of Virginia's lessons smiling, laughing or sometimes deep in thought. He would not need chasing on Virginia's homework and for the first time we started to see him wanting to learn on his own without us holding his hand. It was a steep learning curve as we all realised that Daniel would have to play catch up and quickly. Virginia motivated Daniel where he wanted to work hard. This was not an easy process - but Daniel wanted it and Virginia helped him on his journey. Daniel quickly managed to catch up on lost ground during the pandemic with Virginia's help and we slowly started to think that he might have a slim to chance to get into the very competitive schools in our area. We slowly started to look at the requirements of the 11+ exams. Daniel went to a local state primary where there was no available help in preparing for such exams so Virginia's tutoring and advice was all we had - and it was invaluable. We started to look at secondary schools at the start of Year 5. However, everything changed after one of the Open Days when Daniel decided that he wanted to push himself, a year earlier than we had all anticipated, and wanted to take the 10+ entrance exams for Whitgift. However, he only had 2.5 months to prepare and we approached it as a practice run for the 11+ which would provide an invaluable experience and feedback for the 11+. Daniel worked tremendously hard and Virginia was his mentor and leader. She kept him focused, positive and calm. We all knew it was a long shot. A few months later, we all jumped through the roof with joy when we had the most amazing news that Daniel had managed to pass the entrance hurdles. And suddenly our son would be changing schools a year earlier than anticipated. We definitely all believe that Daniel would not have got there without Virginia. She kept us all sane in a very crazy time. 7 Not only that but Daniel developed a very strong bond with Virginia. So much so that when you would have thought that his journey would have come to a natural conclusion, our son asked us if he could see her again before his end of year exams at Whitgift in Year 6. He was worried that he was a little out of his depth as he had never experienced end of year exams and asked whether he could have a few booster sessions with Virginia. Virginia welcomed him back with open arms and again she delivered as our son managed to attain higher grades beyond his predicted grades. Let alone, Daniel was so happy to see Virginia again, spend time with her and learn with her again! If you are thinking of a tutor, to catch up on lost ground, to help navigate through the chaos of secondary school choice, to get the best out of your child, or even if it is to get in depth and clear feedback about your child's potential - Virginia is the only one! We cannot thank her enough!"
